The Thompson Brass Ensemble is a brass collective founded by James Thompson (trumpet) and Philip Swanson (trombone) to perform music for brass ensemble (trios to large brass choirs) as well as brass in combination with other instruments. Led by James Thompson, Professor of Trumpet at the Eastman School and formerly principal trumpet with the Montreal and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras, the group performs a wide spectrum of brass literature from the medieval period up to the present day. The performers, drawn from symphony orchestras, chamber music ensembles, and university faculty, include some of this country’s finest brass players.
